Managing Access Points


 

 

By default, all devices discovered are added to the WiSentry Administrator as either Unauthorized Access Points (red) or unknown devices (black).  For further information, see Managing Discovery.


Authorize an Access Point

You may choose to authorize one or more devices at the same time. The steps are fairly simple:

  1. Highlight the access point you wish to authorize by clicking on display entry.
  2. Right-click on the device and select Authorize from the context menu or select Actions from the file menu and select Authorize.
  3. Confirm your selection by selecting Yes

For a single device, the following message will be displayed.

For multiple devices, the following message will be displayed.

When a device is authorized, the access point will turn green.


Deauthorize an Access Point

You may also choose to deauthorize one or more access points at the same time.  As with authorization, the steps are fairly simple:

  1. Highlight the access point you wish to deauthorize by clicking on display entry.
  2. Right-click on the device and select DeAuthorize from the context menu or select Actions from the file menu and select DeAuthorize.
  3. Confirm your selection.

For a single device, the following message will be displayed.

For multiple devices, the following message will be displayed.

When a device is deauthorized, the access point will turn red.


Remove an Access Point

You may also choose to temporarily remove one or more discovered devices at the same time.  This is useful for a discovered device that is no longer on the network.  To permanently remove a device that exists on your network, you must Exclude the MAC address of the device.  Select Exclude a MAC Address for more information.

F Removing a discovered access point only removes the device from the WiSentry Administrator until new traffic is seen from that device.

The steps are:

  1. Highlight the access point you wish to remove by clicking on the display entry.
  2. Right-click on the device and select Remove from the context menu or select Actions from the file menu and select Remove.
  3. Confirm your selection.

For a single device, the following message will be displayed.

For multiple devices, the following message will be displayed.

F If you attempt to Remove an Access Point with a Probability above 50%, you will be alerted with an additional confirmation screen for each device.

The device will be removed from the WiSentry Administrator.

 


Exclude an Access Point

You can permanently* remove one or more discovered devices at the same time by selecting this option. This is useful for a devices that belong on your network and that you no longer wish to see on the display.

*Devices that have been excluded will be ignored until the entry for the device is removed from the Excluded MAC list. See Exclude a MAC Address for more information.

The steps are:

  1. Highlight the access point you wish to exclude by clicking on the display entry.
  2. Right-click on the device and select Exclude from the context menu or select Actions from the file menu and select Exclude.
  3. Confirm your selection.

For a single device, the following message will be displayed.

F If you attempt to Exclude an Access Point with a Probability above 50%, you will be alerted with an additional confirmation screen for each device.

The device will be removed from the WiSentry Administrator.
